Post Union 1707 Queen Anne Shilling
Anne reigned from 1702 to 1714. In 1707 the Act of Union transformed the ancient kingdoms of England and Scotland into the single realm of Great Britain on March 26th. Our photographs show a 1707 shilling with a post-union reverse. The shields on the reverse shows the arms of England and Scotland combined, whereas they had previously been shown separately. This was an important stage in the unification, although the two kingdoms had shared monarchs since James VI of Scotland became James I of England in 1603.
On January 1st John V became King of Portugal, on February 1st Frederick the Prince of Wales was born, and on August 25 King Louis of Spain was born.
